So here’s an unpopular opinion.
Fuck you if you compare Bayonetta to bikini armour.
I usually don’t even spend a blink at this kind of shit but with the sequel coming out and since I love this character so much, I’m getting pretty tired of having pseudo-feminists on my dashboard, who essentially know nothing about the character except that she’s sexy and shows a lot of skin at some points, saying she’s that way just for the male gamers and nothing more than fan service.
Because apparently there’s no other reason for a female character to be sexy or revealing. Just like there’s no other reason for women to dress sexy but to appeal to men. Right?
To me this is nothing but the typical slut-shaming under the guise of “oh she’s not real”.
The case with Bayonetta strikes me as even more ironic because the story of whole first game can essentially be considered an allegory to female empowerment over patriarchy. Yet I haven’t found one post on my dash praising her or the game.
To me she’s one of the strongest female characters in videogames and one I admire. Up there with Alyx Vance and Samus. Maybe even considering other media like Ripley and Motoko Kusanagi.
So If a guy can have something to say in today’s feminism, I’ll say this regarding a topic that I love - videogames.
Just assume for a moment that a women character can be sexy and it’s OK, and it’s also OK to use sexyness as weapon and still be AWESOME. And all that without it being some sort of objectification of women.
